Swimming classes for these age groups are a very exciting and rewarding experience for you and your baby. We have been teaching babies since 1989 and have developed a very successful program that has continued to produce confident little swimmers.
A Parent/Guardian or Carer is required to be in the water for our Infant and Toddler programs. This is a great opportunity for you to spend some quality one on one time with your infant/toddler in a new environment. Our program teaches you how to teach your infant/toddler how to swim.
Glenn recommends that Parents start their bubs at 5 months of age. From this age most infants have developed good head control, had time to build their immune system and are starting to explore and move on the floor at home.
For baby’s younger than 5 months, we recommend bath time at home each day and informal playtime in the pool with their parents. We feel this is sufficient for this age group. There is plenty of time after 5 months of age, for babies to be taught in a more formal situation such as a learn to swim program.
A variety of swimming skills are taught to this age group through a range of activities, games and songs.
This is an exciting age group to work with. We have a variety of fun activities where your child learns swimming skills and routines, all based around teaching them to be safe, confident and independent little swimmers.
We do not recommend or use floaties at our Swim School.
From the age of 2.5 to 3 years of age we transition our toddlers into the ‘big kids class’ where parents are no longer required to get into the water. We find that most toddlers at this age tend to do much more for an instructor than they would do for their parent. Parents are seated close by, on the side of the pool.
Children in this group are graded according to their swimming ability and grouped into a specific level where they will either be taught water confidence and water safety skills or start learning the formal swimming strokes.
Coming from a strong swimming and teaching background, Glenn has had a big advantage in developing his learn to swim program. He has a highly structured system that turns non swimmers into great little confident swimmers. There is no guess work. Glenn knows the importance of skill sequencing and development and this is the basis of his program.
Children are firstly assessed and placed into specific levels where they are taught the required skills so that they can then progress through our levels. All swimming skills are taught in a gradual and sequential program that culminates in children being able to successfully swim all four competitive strokes with good technique.
Once learnt, these skills are skills your child will have for the rest of their life. What a great gift. An exciting skill that they can use at their school swimming carnivals or at a swimming or surf lifesaving club. Swimming is a skill that will enable your child to socialise with other fit young children in a variety of different sports.
